Griffin Bowers, Jarrett Jones, Haley Luther, Koby Nicholson, and Dylan Palmer served as interns for the Sabian corporation during the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis, IN.

Jonathan Hall was named New Teacher of the Year at Northwest Rankin Elementary School.

Spring 2021
David Jenkins received a teaching assistantship in percussion at the University of Utah, where he will be pursuing his Master of Music degree in percussion in the Fall of 2021.
Santiago Diaz has been accepted to Lee University, where he will be pursuing his Master of Music degree in percussion in the Fall of 2021. He will be completing his Bachelor of Arts in Music degree at MSU in the Summer of 2021.
Jonathan Hall will be teaching general music at Northwest Rankin Elementary School, beginning in the Fall of 2021. He is a Spring 2021 Bachelor of Music Education graduate from MSU.

Grace McCommon was accepted into the Master of Music Education program at the University of Memphis, where she will be attending in the Fall of 2020. Grace will graduate from MSU with a Bachelor of Music Education degree this spring.
Dawson Young received a spot in the snare drum section of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and Haley Luther received a spot in the front ensemble of the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps.
Romar Sillo and David Jenkins won first place in the underclassmen and upperclassmen/graduate divisions of the Mississippi Percussive Arts Society Timpani Competition. They performed their solos on a feature concert at the Mississippi Day of Percussion on January 25.

Carlos Kemp received 1st place and Thomas Axton received 2nd place in the 2nd Annual Percussion Studio Composition Contest. This year's theme was woodwind and percussion duet. Both pieces will be performed in the Fall 2018 semester.
The MSU Percussion Ensemble gave two performances (Starkville & Cleveland, MS) of Edgard Varese's "Ionisation" in collaboration with the Delta State University Percussion Ensemble.
David Jenkins received the Outstanding Musician in Percussion Award and Carlos Kemp received the Emerging Artist in Percussion Award from the MSU Department of Music.
Dylan Hamman performed his senior Bachelor of Arts in Music recital.

Congratulations to Thomas Axton (Freshman Music Ed/Trombone) and Jacob Baker (Sophomore Music Ed/Saxophone) on placing 1st and 2nd in our percussion ensemble composition contest. Both students' compositions will be performed by the MSU Percussion Ensemble this fall.
Caleb Mooneyham, Trenton Brown, Dylan Hamman, and Zach Sayles gave a presentation entitled "Cultural Synergy in Lou Harrison's 'Song of Queztecoatl'" at the MSU College of Education Research Forum.
Trenton Brown performed Askell Masson's "Konzerstuck for Snare Drum and Orchestra" with the Starkville Symphony Orchestra. Trenton was the winner of the 2016 MSU Student Concerto Competition.
Garrett Gibson (BME, 2017) was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of North Texas where he will be pursuing a Master of Music degree in percussion performance this fall.
